Fees & Billing

Mostyn Street Clinic is a locally owned independent General Practice and strives to provide the highest quality care for our patients and the Mount Alexander Shire community. We are a mixed billing practice.

Following the government’s recent increase to the Bulk Billing Incentive, the Mostyn Street Clinic has accepted the Medicare patient rebate as full payment for some of our services for eligible patients (Pensioners, concession card holders and children under 16), and this is referred to as bulk billing.

Unfortunately, the daily operational costs of running a quality general practice continue to rise. Fair wages for our staff, equipment and related medical material expenses continue to climb without additional meaningful Government support. To continue providing quality service, we charge a gap fee or out-of-pocket fee.

OBTAINING YOUR MEDICARE REBATE

For private patients, we now have a variety of options for you to receive your Medicare Rebate:

  • Instant rebate into a cheque or savings account via your card
  • If you have your bank Account Number & BSB, a rebate can be deposited into your bank account
  • From July 1st 2016, Medicare will no longer issue cheques for rebates. For further information please visit humanservices.gov.au
  • A ‘gap’ is the out of pocket cost, after the Medicare Rebate.

REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS & REFERRALS WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT

To qualify for a medicare rebate, a request for a referral or prescription must be in person or over the phone. If it is more convenient to you, you can make a request after-hours for a repeat prescription or referral that you GP can fulfill. This is booked through HotDocs and has a private fee with no medicare rebate.

Brief script-only appointments are available in-hours and these appointments are bulk billed. 

CASTLEMAINE HEALTH PRIVATE PATIENTS ACCOUNTS

If you elect to be admitted to Castlemaine Health as a private patient , your regular GP (and sometimes the On Call Doctor at the hospital) will visit you whilst you are in hospital. Private accounts for these visits will be issued and posted to you with a medicare claim form and two way claim form for your private insurer.
